the Youth Arts Series Presents Summer Art Camp 2023

Program Description: The Youth Arts Series (YAS) annual Summer Art Camp is back for its 6th session! Keiki will join our talented local artists for creative adventures. In this year's summer session, the YAS team of skilled instructors will guide young artists through the process of learning a variety of mediums. Our student artists will create their own works of art while learning basic technical skills behind each medium. 

YAS will be rolling out more summer classes in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Classes:

• Shoebox Museums with Alyssa Perry: Students will be creating a shoebox museum exhibit of an artist. They will spend time researching information about an artist and creating miniature pieces of art to display in their shoebox museum exhibit in the style of their artist. They will also include a short biography on the walls of their museum exhibit.
• Papermaking: Connecting with The `Āina with Mary Milelzcik: Students will experiment with traditional and experimental papermaking, using plant and recycled paper pulp tinted and painted with earth pigments and plant dyes. They will be able to add various fibers, leaf confetti, sea glass and flowers to enhance their art. Projects include cyanotype sun prints; paper scrolls and small art books; printmaking using plants and, flower pounding to transfer flowers and plants to handmade paper. These are fun activities that students can share with their `ohana.
• Mixed Media with Jessica McMahel: The class will focus on monoprinting techniques, a one-off printing technique. Through monoprinting students will also work with a variety of media. Under the guidance of their instructor, students will get the unique opportunity to work with the printing press in EHCC’s Print Studio.
